CaNa Licence, version 1.0
Copyright (C) 2026 Edison Rees and Caisson. All rights reserved.

Applies to: Arachnid, the Caisson 3D printing slicer, and Venus, the Caisson AI tooling (the Venus CLI and VenusMCP) ("the Software").

The CaNa Licence is not the GNU GPL or any other open source licence. The Software is closed source.

1. GRANT OF USE

You may use the Software free of charge, forever, for any purpose, personal or commercial. This includes everyone from Elon Musk to a person without a printer who just likes reading G-code.

2. REDISTRIBUTION

You may redistribute unmodified copies of the Software, including bundling it with hardware, software or services, provided that:

  (a) the notice "(C) Edison Rees and Caisson" is displayed clearly at every point where a user can access, launch or interact with the Software (for example, its launcher, menu entry, window, web page or download page); and

  (b) attribution is NOT confined to a credits screen, about page, documentation or any other location separate from the access point. A credits-screen-only attribution does not satisfy this section.

You may not charge for the Software itself, though you may charge for hardware or services you bundle it with.

3. NO MODIFICATION, NO OPEN-SOURCING

You may not:
  (a) modify, patch, alter or create derivative works of the Software;
  (b) publish, release or license the Software or any part of it under an open-source or any other licence; or
  (c) distribute a modified copy of the Software.

4. NO REVERSE ENGINEERING

You may not decompile, disassemble, reverse engineer, decrypt, debug, or otherwise attempt to derive the source code, algorithms or internal structure of the Software, to the maximum extent permitted by law.

The Software contains tamper protection. If tampering is detected, the Software may permanently disable and overwrite its own program files. This protection acts only on the Software's own installation files and never on any other file, data or system. Caisson is not obliged to restore a copy disabled by tampering.

5. OUTPUT

G-code and any other output produced by the Software ("Output") is owned by no one in particular, which is to say everyone equally: each person on Earth holds a 1/p share, where p is the global population. Neil Armstrong's share is included.

In practical terms, to the extent Caisson or Edison Rees hold any rights in Output, those rights are waived and the Output is dedicated to the public domain. You may use, sell, share and modify Output freely, with no attribution required.

6. MANDATORY FAULT REPORTING

If the Software breaks, crashes, malfunctions, produces faulty Output, or damages any printer, part, material or other property, you must report it to Caisson so it can be fixed. No ifs, ands, ors or buts.

Reports go to: hello@caissonai.co

A report should include, where available: the Software version, your operating system, the printer model, the input file or settings, and a description of what happened. Reporting a fault does not make Caisson liable for it (see Sections 7 and 8).

7. NO WARRANTY

THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT, TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.

The sole remedy offered for any failure is the following statement, which Caisson hereby extends in advance: "I'm so sorry bro."

8. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Edison Rees and Caisson are not liable for any damage arising from use of or inability to use the Software, including damage to printers, prints, materials, data, property or profits. Where the law does not allow liability to be excluded, it is limited to the minimum the law allows. Nothing in this licence excludes rights you have under consumer law that cannot be excluded, including the Australian Consumer Law.

9. TERMINATION

Your rights under this licence end automatically if you breach Sections 2, 3, 4 or 6. On termination you must stop using and distributing the Software and delete all copies you control. Sections 5, 7, 8 and 10 survive termination.

10. GENERAL

This licence is governed by the laws of Western Australia, Australia. Caisson may publish new versions of the CaNa Licence; each copy of the Software is governed by the version it was distributed with. All rights not expressly granted are reserved by Edison Rees and Caisson.
